At least 12 militants were killed and 23 others including 13 security personnel martyred in a gun battle that raged after an attack on Army Colony in Lakki Marwat in wee hours of Saturday. Eight security personnel were also injured in the fighting.

According to official sources, the clash took place in Serai Naurang town at 3 AM when at least 30 militants with heavy weapons raided an army camp killing 13 security men including three Frontier Constabulary men.

The security forces surrounded the area soon after the incident and a gun battle ensued, killing 12 militants, the sources said.

Sounds of explosions and firing were constantly heard in the area, the sources added. The security troops of Bannu also took part in the operation. Two among the militants killed in the clash were wearing suicide jackets.

In a related development, ten persons were killed when a blast occurred in a house situated in a nearby colony in Lakki Marwat where security forces were conducting operation against the militants who stormed the security camp.

Security forces confirmed that ten persons were killed in the blast that occurred in a local man’s house near Serai Naurang check post.

The injured security men were shifted to Bannu hospital from where seriously injured personnel were referred to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Peshawar.

It is worth mentioning here that previously Serai Naurang was a residential area but after security situation deteriorated in the area, security troops comprising 200 personnel set up their camp in 2011 there.
