LAHORE – Scores of students on Friday broke down into tears when they left a distribution venue, Alhamra Cultural Complex, without laptops.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Maryam Nawaz distributed 2,030 laptops among girl students from 17 City colleges. The ‘neglected’ students said they were brought to the ceremony in the morning on the promise that they would be given laptops. But, they added, they left for home without laptops at noon.
The students said they told their family and friends that they were promised laptops by the government. “We find it difficult to face them (family and friends),” the students regret. They could not be soothed, though some officials assured them of including their names the next time.
Earlier speaking on the occasion, Maryam Nawaz called upon students to play their part in national prosperity.
Talking about her party-led government’ feats, she said the Punjab government had initiated a number of development projects to benefit commoners. Maryam called for equipping students with modern knowledge and technology to cope with challenges confronting the country.
She said that in the past, thieves and looters used national exchequer for their interests and now they were criticising the welfare projects of Punjab government to cover their inefficiency. She said the development projects initiated by the Punjab government won appreciation in the country and abroad as well.
Maryam said the Punjab government had started Rs.2.5 billion solar lamp distribution project. She stressed the students to exercise their right to vote for sincere leadership.
Adviser to CM Zakaiya Shahnawaz, Shaista Pervaiz Malik, officials and senior teachers were also present on the occasion. A guard of honour was also presented to students.
