SIALKOT - Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) President Sheikh Abdul Majid said that a joint meeting of all trade bodies in the district was held to discuss severe electricity crisis and its devastating effect on the industrial production.

In a press statement issued here the other day, he said that head of trade bodies expressed grave concern over the the 15 to 18 hours unscheduled loadshedding in the district which had crippled industrial production and domestic life equally.

The SCCI president said that the export industry was not only paying taxes but was also earning valuable foreign exchange for the country. He said that manufacturing sector was the main source of providing employment which was not able to operate.

He said that it had repeatedly been pleaded to the authorities to be sympathetic with the export hub of the country and at least avoid forced loadshedding at the industrial feeders giving it maximum supply during the working hours of 9am to 5pm.

The President said that it was decided in the meeting that it would again be emphasized on the authorities to avoid all sorts of power cuts to ensure maximum electricity to the Industry.

It was also decided that if the situation did not improve in the next 4-5 day, strong protest would be launched and strike call would be given to the industry, he added.
