ROME  - Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar on Friday said that the struggle of the people and the Pakistani govt against terrorism was aimed at defending the inclusive, pluralistic and tolerant ethos that was the defining characteristic of the Pakistani society. “This ethos lies at the heart of the vision of our Founding Father Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, which he articulated in his address to Pakistan’s Constituent Assembly,” the Foreign Minister said while speaking  at the book launching ceremony of “Chiesedel Pakistan” (Churches of Pakistan) here. Italian Foreign Minister Terzi was also present  n the occasion. This book is a pictorial collection of churches, which are spread across the length and breadth of Pakistan. She said these beautiful churches represented important landmarks in Pakistani towns and cities and added to their architectural richness. They bear witness to Pakistan’s religious diversity and pluralistic character, she said, adding, “we are proud of this diversity; we embrace it and cherish it. It is a source of strength for us.”The Foreign Minister on the occasion quoted the historic words of Founder of the Nation Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah:“You are free; you are free to go to your temples, you are free to go to your mosques or to any other place of worship in this State of Pakistan. You may belong to any religion or caste or creed - that has nothing to do with the business of the State. We are starting with this fundamental principle that we are all citizens and equal citizens of one State.”Hina said both Pakistan and Italy attached great importance to interfaith harmony and intercultural dialogue. “We share the conviction that dialogue fosters tolerance, mutual understanding and mutual respect- the pillars on which the edifice of peace is built,” she added. She said that religion held a central place in both the societies. She said that co-launching of this book symbolised the commitment to promote the ideals of peace, tolerance, and inter-faith harmony.She said that the Constitution of Pakistan recognised the right of all its citizens to freely profess and practice their religions. She said the people of Pakistan were united in their commitment that they would not allow the forces of extremism to obscure this vision.
