LAHORE - The Pakistan Telecommunications Company Limited, in a bid to further enhance its frequency range, has acquired the frequency spectrum of DV Com Ltd and DV Com Data Ltd, telecom industry sources said on Saturday.

They said that that the PTCL is widely considered Pakistan’s largest fixed line, having subsidiary of one of the top three mobile phone companies of Ufone.  The DV Com had bought these frequencies from the Pakistan Telecom Authority which regulates telecommunications in Pakistan under the Ministry of Telecom and IT. However, having no option due to default of payment the DV Com has to sell its frequency spectrum to avoid loss.  Zoya Ahmed, an expert, said that from 3G auction to Warid buyout, PTCL is eyeing some major acquisitions and investments in CY14. She said that on the revenue front, ICH continues to be the hot favorite for the company despite a lot of questions over its sustainability.

Adding Rs33.8b to the company’s total revenue stream, it has outgrown all the other segments substantially even in the face of 31% drop in international incoming minutes. Apart from LDI, another segment that has grown exorbitantly over the year and demands attention is the Broadband division of the company.
