ISLAMABAD: A district and sessions court today granted pre-arrest bail to Maulana Abdul Aziz of Lal Masjid in two criminal cases, against surety bonds of Rs 50,000 each.

Additional Session Judge Raja Asif Mehmood heard Maulana Abdul Aziz’s bail plea.

The cases were registered at Aabpara Police Station under Section 295-A of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) read with Section ¾ of the Amplifier Act and Section 506 (ii) (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the PPC.

The Maulana was accused of threatening a person identified as Naeem Bukhari and delivering an inciting speech at the Community Centre Ground. Talking to reporters outside the court, Maulana Aziz claimed that all the cases registered against him were ‘false’.

He said he was ready to forgive former president Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf and others, who were involved in the Lal Masjid operation in July 2007.

“I will announce the forgiveness publicly,” he told the reporters. However, Aziz’s lawyer Advocate Tariq Asad said he would register a case against his client, if he pardoned those behind the Lal Masjid operation.
