Lal Masjid cleric seeks pre-arrest bail in cases

Islamabad - Lal Masjid cleric Maulana Abdul Aziz yesterday approached a local court and sought pre-arrest bail in two cases registered against him.
Additional Sessions Judge Raja Asif Mahmood admitted his bail pleas in two cases related to violation of Amplifier Act and extending life threats to civil society activists. The court would take up this matter today (Tuesday).
Maulana Abdul Aziz’s counsel Tariq Asad Advocate cited the state and SHO Aabpara as respondents. He submitted two applications and sought pre-arrest bails in two cases. The cases were registered with Aabpara police station on 17 October, 2014 and December 19, 2014.
The judge noted in his decision of admitting Aziz’s pleas that keeping in view the fact that there are two FIRs already registered against the petitioner, it is difficult to ascertain whether he is under detention/ arrest in these cases or in improper custody. Therefore, he added, neither at this stage interim bail can be granted nor application for dispensation can be allowed. The judge directed the SHO Aabpara to produce the petitioner before the court, if he is not in custody in the abovementioned cases or any other case. He added if he is in custody, a report be submitted to this court in this regard.
