Scores of doctors staged a protest against their non-induction for Postgraduate Resident trainees (PGR) in Nishtar Hospital although they have expressed willingness to work without stipend.

The doctors were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans for their induction in the hospital here on Abdali Road. Doctors namely Asif Qamar, Shehzad Rana, Amjid Kaleem, Wajahat Saleem and others informed that the managements of Jinnah, Services and Mayo hospitals Lahore have already offered induction facility to a good number of graduates for PGR-ship but the Nishtar hospital administration has denied the facility to doctors who want to make carrier and serve ailing humanity.

The doctors informed that they are ready to work without any stipend and demanded the government review its decision and ensure their induction as early as possible.

There is shortage of doctors and they could offer services without stipends. They also alleged that induction committee headed by Dr Ejaz Masood has not follow the merit policy and accommodate candidates of his choice. They regretted that one of the biggest hospitals of South Punjab is deprived of special doctors. Fatima Jinnah hospital had also 10 seats of PGRs trainers with stipends but the Induction committee of Nishtar hospital is not considering it also.

It is to be noted that all the protesting doctors had completed FCPS part-first and in case they are not inducted for PGR-ship, their higher educational carrier will end as they would not be able to appear in FCPS part second. Training is must for appearing and securing good marks in FCPS.
