Police’s novel way to reign in criminals

406 kanals, 4 marlas owned by POs confiscated

The police have started confiscating properties owned by notorious criminals and proclaimed offenders across Sialkot region after adopting requisite legal course.
Regional Police Officer Guranwala Region Muhammad Tahir stated while talking newsmen at his office here on Monday. The RPO said that the police have confiscated properties, measuring 406 kanals and 4 marlas, worth millions of rupees, owned by nine proclaimed offenders after orders of the local courts under the Land Revenue Act under supervision of local officials of the Revenue Department.
These confiscated properties are located in Gujranwala Division’s all the six Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad and Gujranwala districts. He, however, did not explain exact location of these properties.
The police took into possession the properties after it was established that these properties are in the name of the POs following land revenue record provided by the revenue department.
He said that properties in the names of the other family members and relatives of the POs are not being touched.
He revealed that 18 other notorious POs are having their properties (measuring 964 kanals and 17 marlas) in this region. While, the Revenue Department has given the prescribed certificates about 192 POs regarding non-existence of any property under their names here.
The Additional IG Police narrated that this is direly needed step to control and uproot the criminals and tighten legal circle around them.
He said that there are a total 228 notorious proclaimed offenders in Gujranwala region, out of which police have arrested eight POs. While, police have started proceedings against 220 POs under section 88 CrPC to ensure their early arrests in this regard.
“Special teams have been constituted to ensure early arrest of the notorious proclaimed offenders and DPOs, SPs (Investigations) and SDPOs across Gujranwala divisions have been directed to ensure their early arrest.
He informed that a special cell for the extradition of POs is function at the RPO Gujranwala Office under the supervision of DSP (Legal).
He claimed that the police have also started approaching the Interpol to ensure early arrest of the notorious POs, who have fled abroad.
