GUJRANWALA - The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) launched investigation into funds embezzlement of millions of rupees in Solid Waste Management Company on Thursday.

ACE Regional Director Fareed Ahmed directed the inquiry officers to complete the inquiry within seven days. He also ordered action against the officials involved in corruption.

Municipal Corporation (MC) Mayor Sheikh Sarwat Ikram in a letter to the ACE authorities had demanded action against corrupt officials.

In his letter, the mayor alleged that about Rs30 million had been embezzled in the name of purchase of machinery. He added that the machinery which was purchased has gone out of order due to negligence of the officials concerned.

He urged the ACE to launch inquiry into corruption and take action against the corrupt officials.

DEMO: Dozens of workers of a local organisation staged a demonstration for the provision of speedy justice to the common man in the country. They were led by Waleed Asif Butt. They chanted slogans and vowed to continue their struggle for the restoration of transparent judicial system in the country. Meanwhile dozens of banners were placed on various roads of the city inscribed with the slogans concerning transparent judicial system.

ESCAPE: Ten Rescue 1122 officials fled from the police station. Police had taken them into custody after they scuffled with lawyers.
