ISLAMABAD - Kisan Support Services Limited (KSSL) accumulated profit of Rs487.863 million against the Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited's investment of Rs100 million during last 11 years, National Assembly Standing Committee on Food and Security was told on Thursday.

ZTBL Credit Head briefed the committee that State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has assigned agri lending target of Rs 125.000 billion to ZTBL with province wise share. He further informed that the bank provides credit facilities primarily to small farmers having 25 acres of irrigated land or 50 acres of un-irrigated area.

During the discussion Captain Safdar emphasized that the bank should introduce some innovative products for the farmers. He said the bank should start for trout farming. He said Tarbela lake is 100 kilometers in diameter, the bank can provide air-conditioned vans to local fishers to ship catch to cities and can earn money.

Captain Safdar said due to his efforts far-flung cadet colleges have been linked with fiber optics. Giving examples of use of technology he said he has empowered SCO and with the help of Pakistan Army its network was increased. He said the elections were coming and the committee should finalise proposals for the betterment of agriculture in the country. Secretary Ministry of Food and Security insisted that the case of millions of rupees corruption was actually mismanagement.

When the members showed displeasure the secretary said minor disciplinary action of suspending one increment has been taken against the accused officials of his ministry.

Secretary, Ministry of National Food Security and Research briefed the committee about the implementation of the recommendations made by the committee and also briefed on National Food Safety bill.
