ISLAMABAD -  Former federal minister Nilofar Bakhtiar Thursday joined the Pakistan People’s Party.

Nilofar Bakhtiar met former President Asif Ali Zardari and announced the decision. Welcoming Nilofar Bakhtiar in the PPP, Zardari said the party was following the vision of Benazir Bhutto.

Zardari said that PPP respected women. He said the women should gather on the platform provided by PPP and strengthen Bilawal Bhutto Zardari's efforts so that the dream of Benazir Bhutto could be realised. Nilofar Bakhtiar said that PPP is like home for her as her parents belonged to this party.

Meanwhile, political and social figure of Rawalpindi Raja Fayyaz Yaqoob also joined PPP after meeting Zardari. Speaking on the occasion, Zardari said that whenever PPP comes to power, it creates job opportunities for youth, initiates programs like Benazir Bhutto Income Support Program to emancipate women and increase salaries of government employees.

In contrast, he said, when the PPP was out of power, poor employees were retrenched on one pretext or the other.

He said the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) had once again increased the petroleum prices to suck the blood of poor masses. He instructed the PPP to raise the issue of this cruel increase in the parliament.

Zardari also expressed deep grief and sorrow over the murder of senior party leader Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani and his wife Fariha Razzaq.

In a condolence message, Zardari said that he was shocked by the news of murder of Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani and his wife in Karachi. He asked the Sindh government to thoroughly investigate the incident and present a report in this regard.

He said that Hazar Khan Bijarani was a decent and a principled leader who served his constituency with commitment and dedication.

Zardari also condoled with the family of late Senator Saifullah Bangash and said that his services for the party were immense and unforgettable.
