KARACHI - Mayor Wasim Akhtar expressed concern over failure of departments to achieve the set recovery targets given to the concerned departments.

He was presided a meeting regarding performance of recovery departments of KMC in his office on Thursday during which recovery performance in 208 days of current fiscal year reviewed and discussed.

The meeting was attended by the municipal commissioner Dr Asghar Abbas, Chairmen and Chairperson of various Committees of City Council Karachi and concerned head of the departments and other officers.

The mayor reviewed the detailed presentation given on this occasion regarding recovery targets and achieved income of all recovery departments of KMC. He also enquired about the low recovery position and the reasons behind this and urged the head of the department to submit required details immediately about their working.

The mayor expressed concern on failure of departments to achieve the recovery targets given to the concerned departments. He said the head of departments will have to show improvement in their works.

He said meeting of recovery departments will be held after every 15 days and the participation of the head of the department will be essential as henceforth no reason for the absence of HOD will be acceptable.

Mayor Karachi said recovery condition must be improved and the officers and their subordinate show their commitment to their duty.

He urged those departments which showed better to work even harder to strengthen the organization financially. He said the corruption and wrong practices in KMC departments will be removed completely and all efforts will be made to improve the recovery condition.

Mayor Karachi directed heads of recovery departments to ensure speedy recovery of revenue and mobilize all their subordinates in this connection. Strict disciplinary action would be taken if any official was found showing negligence or carelessness while performing his duty.

He said that delay in processing of works will not be tolerated any further therefore all officers should perform their duty on timely basis. He said it was essential to increase the revenue generating resources so that development works could be completed without facing any hurdle. He said recovery departments must adopt such a comprehensive strategy that could ensure better recovery for the organization.

It is worth to mentioning here that Opposition Leader in City Council, Karachi Karamullah Waqasi on Wednesday in a statement has criticized the performance of revenue recovery of KMC departments and said that Rs5 billions revenue recovered during last six months of current fiscal year despite revenue collection target had set Rs13 billion.
