On the brink

India's continued reluctance in providing tangible proofs of Pakistan's alleged involvement in the Mumbai attacks defies common sense. The latest development in this regard is the statement by Ronald Noble, Secretary General of the global police agency Interpol. Mr. Noble has said that India has not shared any information with his agency about last month's attacks in Mumbai. This devious attitude makes one think that India probably has some malicious designs on Pakistan. Pakistan government must take serious note of this Indian attitude. Pakistan needs to change the defensive approach it is pursuing so far. Our diplomatic missions should be employed to highlight this unreasonable behavior of India the world over. Indian leaders should beware Pakistan is not a Banana Republic. It is a leading Muslim state in possession of nuclear weapons whose people, despite having acute complaints against their government have an extraordinary spirit of nationalism that comes to fore in times of crisis. Anyone interested in adventurism will be up against the resolve of this people and would be pushing this region into a very dangerous situation. Sanity demands that India should come forth with tangible evidence before taking any action. -ANWAR JALAL, Peshawar, via e-mail, December 24.
