KARACHI/ISLAMABAD - The Swine Flu Cell has confirmed that swine flu (H1N1) has claimed the life of a citizen at a public hospital of the metropolis. Swine Flu Cell In-charge, Dr Suresh Kumar, told The Nation on Saturday that a patient, Iftikharullah Khan, 28, was admitted for medical treatment a few days back. Later he was found H1N1 positive on December 29, Kumar said and added that he did not survive owing to the severity of the disease and died on Friday night. Dr Kumar said, As many as 12 cases of swine flu have been reported in the city during the last three months. Out of these cases, one was found in Sukkur. Meanwhile, utterly alarmed by the reported death of a patient of swine flu in Sindh province, the Federal Ministry of Health has decided to conduct a fresh survey to determine strength of new strain of swine flu across the country. Authorities of federal ministry are planning to conduct a survey to determine strength of a new strain of influenza virus across the country, official sources told The Nation on Saturday. However, no higher authority was available on Saturday to confirm this report. Although the Ministry of Health ensured remarkable measures to detect and stop influenza virus (swine flue) in the wake of more than 150,000 Haj pilgrims return from Saudi Arabia recently, authorities want to further go ahead to double check the virus, said the sources.
