NANKANA SAHIB - The participants of a ceremony here urged the government and philanthropists to come forward and support the deserving poor students in order to enable them to play their key role in the welfare of the country.

The steps taken to establish a Book Bank and a Blood Bank for the deserving poor families were appreciated during the 2nd annual ceremony organised by the Young Educational & Welfare Society (YES). The ceremony was chaired by PTI General Secretary EngShahid Mahmood, Admin. Officer (Education) Rana Ashraf, former Bar Association president Rai Akram Bhatti, PTI leaders Malik Khalid Mahmood, Naseer Ahmed, Saeed Bhatti Advocate, social worker Khan Baber Khan, Hafiz Zahid, Ghulam Gilani Shah, media representatives, traders, lawyers and hundreds of students.

Founder of the society, Assistant Prof Tariq Ghayoor, President Rana Waqas Adeel, Bilal Khalid Advocate, Farooq Younas and Prof Zafar Iqbal addressed the ceremony. They highlighted YES’ last year’s achievements and future plans like book bank and scholarships for the poor studying in different professional institutes of the country belonging to Nankana district. It was announced that whoever needed blood would be facilitated within one hour by the members of the society.  Furthermore, the availability of books, blood and financial assistance would be top priority of the welfare society, they added. YES announced telephone 0313-5200340, 0321-7278424 for public to get assistance round the clock at their office on the Bashir Bhatti Road, near Rahat Bakers in Nankana. During the ceremony Rai Akram Bhatti, Rana Gulab, District Press Club Chairman Malik Bao Zafar donated Rs5,000 each and Eng Mahood Rs10,000 to YES and promised further financial assistance in the future and requested philanthropists to support the welfare society.

New DPC body felici tated: New District Press Club officeholders for the year 2012 were elected in the general body meeting held here.

Asif Ali Bhatti was elected as President, Eng Shahid Mahmood as senior vice president, Rao Taouqeerul Aslam secretary general, Riaz Ahmed vice presedent, Waris Alvi Shahkot vice president, Asif Mahmood Nizami Sangla Hill VP, Qaiser Mahmood Gujjer secretary general, Tahir Mahmood Hajvari secretary finance and Asif Iqbal was elected as secretary information.  DPC Chairman Malik Bao Zafar Iqbal, media representatives, notables and civil society members, traders and politicians congratulated the newly-elected office-bearers.

An oath-taking ceremony will be held on Friday, January 6, 2012 at the Sports Club Nankana wherein Markazi Anjuman Tajran president Tariq, bar president Haq Nawaz, religious leaders Muhibul Nabi Tahir and Ghulam Jeelani Shah, the founder of Hayatul Huda Welfare Foundation will participate.
