Govt should announce elections if it is sincere with democracy: Nawaz

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president Mian Nawaz Sharif Monday said if the present government was sincere with democracy, then it should announce fresh elections soon. Nawaz denied reports regarding his meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari with reference to Balochistan Chief Minister Aslam Raisani’s statement.
While talking to media at Karachi airport, the PML-N chief told that he was unaware who wanted him to meet the president and that he has not come to Karachi after consulting President Zardari. He said he came to know through the media that the president was also present in Karachi. He said the sole purpose of his visit to Karachi was to conduct the party’s provincial elections.
Nawaz said his party is in favour of resuming Bahawalpur’s old status and forming Hazara province. He said the PML-N supports the creation of new provinces on administrative basis, not on linguistic basis.
He said the PML-N was a democratic party and there was democracy within the ranks of the party.
Coming hard on the PPP-led government, the PML-N chief said the government has not given a single proof that it was sincere with the democracy. He said several leaders in the PML-N were favouring the resignations while some are of the view that resignations will not serve the purpose. The said the PPP did not fulfil its agreements with the PML-N, otherwise there would not have been any talk of resignations or corruption rather solution of people’s problems would have been the focus of both the major parties. Nawaz also expressed concern over poor law and order in Karachi, adding that all the parties functional in the mega city should tell the citizens about their role.
