LAHORE-Governor Khyber Pakhtoonkhawa Barrister Masood Kausar has said that the people struggling for the protection of human rights and promotion of constitutional values deserve all respect.

While addressing an award distribution ceremony held under the aegis of Human Rights Society Pakistan on Sunday, he said that a number of persons were engaged in efforts for the welfare of the people and protection of human rights all over the world and their selfless services should be fully appreciated.

Barrister Masood received human rights award for his brother and renowned poet Ahmad Faraz (late). Shibli Faraz son of Ahmad Faraz was also present on the occasion.

Governor Khyber Pakhtoonkhawa expressed his gratitude to the Human Rights Society for acknowledging the services of Ahmad Faraz. He said that Ahmad Faraz highlighted the problems of the oppressed and poor people through his poetry. He said that those who are rendering sacrifices for the protection of human rights are our benefactors. He said that very few persons got their due status in the world and Ahmad Faraz was among those lucky ones who are loved by the society and the people appreciate his role in upholding human values.

Barrister Masood said that Pashto was the mother language of Ahmad Faraz but he had complete command over Urdu language. He disclosed that Ahmad Faraz was so popular among the people that a number of mothers named their sons as Ahmad Faraz.

Addressing the function prominent poet Amjad Islam Amjad said that Ahmad Faraz is the representative poet of 20th century and his poetry based on human rights received wide popularity.

Chairman Human Rights Committee Senator S. M Zafar while  addressing the function said that inequitable distribution of wealth was the main cause of social unrest and when the protectors of life and property indulge in loot and plunder people cannot feel safe. He urged that we would have to bring about an intellectual revolution and will have to encourage those working for humanity.

Human Rights Awards were given to Rubina Munir Bhatti (Education), Abdul Islam Sumro (Cameraman) and Zahid Khokhar (Reporter) of Karachi in the field of journalism for highlighting the news of murder of Sarfraz Shah by Rangers. Tanvir Abbas Tabish, AM Shakoori, Zafar Ali Raja, Jamil Kashgori and Washan Zafar also addressed the function.
