RUSSELL Brand and Katy Perry announced Friday that they’re getting divorced after just over a year of marriage. Quelle surprise!
So what went wrong?
Well, according to a report by Us Weekly magazine, trouble has long been brewing for the spouses of 14 months.
Just prior to Christmas, Perry, 27, and Brand, 36, had a “massive fight” over where to go on their holiday vacation. “She was like, I’m going to do my own thing.’ Russell replied, ‘Fine, I am also going to my own thing,” an insider said. Perry ended up in Hawaii with pals while Brand spent Christmas catching up with a pal in a pub in chilly London.
“They’ve fought since they met,” said the source.
“Katy doesn’t think Russell respects her parents’ Christian beliefs or her friends.
Brand finally went through with a divorce filing on December 30, citing irreconcilable differences in papers processed in Los Angeles Superior Court.
“Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage,” Brand tells Us Weekly in a statement. “I’ll always adore her and I know we’ll remain friends.”
Meanwhile, according to TMZ, Perry wanted Brand to file the court papers in their divorce because didn’t want to upset her religious parents.
It’s believed Katy and Russell knew the relationship was on the rocks a couple of months ago, but didn’t want to give up on the marriage without making a concerted effort to work things out.
“But the effort fell flat,” a source said. “They both felt “it just wasn’t there. “Katy and Russell were on board with the divorce a few weeks ago. Bbut they didn’t want to be in town when the papers were filed … so he went back to England and she went to Hawaii.               –SS
