The relatives of missing persons in Balochistan say that 463 individuals went forcibly missing around the province in 2015. The Chairperson of Voice for Missing Baloch Persons (VMBP) Nasarullah Baloch has said that tortured dead bodies of 157 Baloch people were found in the previous year. He was talking outside Islamabad Press Club yesterday.

He further stated that this data has been collected from the relatives of missing persons, human rights organizations and other sources. “There is a possibility that the count of missing persons might be much higher than this because government has accepted that under National Action Plan, more than 9000 individuals have been arrested,” he pointed out.

“Under Pakistan Protection Act, government is bound to tell the relatives of missing persons about their whereabouts, but that's not happening,” he claimed. “Rather contrary to the law, neither the details of these arrests nor the information of their location have been issued by the government,” he added.

The VBMP Chairman further said that under NAP the arrested must be presented in court within 90 days. "But some of them have not been presented,” he claimed.

Dead bodies have been found in different regions of Balochistan, but the current provincial government has claimed that the ratio has decreased. “164 dead bodies were found in 2014 from the province,” official sources said. While rejecting the official claims, the VBMP has claimed that 435 went missing and 455 dead bodies were found during the year.

Tortured dead bodies began surfacing in Balochistan in 2008. Human Rights Organization have protested against it and VBMP conducted a long march from Quetta to Islamabad over the issue.
