Islamabad - Islamabad police arrested 8,256 accused during the year 2015 for their alleged involvement in various crime cases, besides recovery of weapons, narcotics and looted items worth around Rs 408 million from them.

Following the directions from Minister for Interior Ch Nisar Ali Khan to enhance policing measures in the city for ensuring protection to the lives and property of the citizens, Islamabad police made special efforts to curb activities of anti-social elements and achieved significant success.

IGP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan assigned special task to officials of Islamabad police and massive crackdowns against absconders and criminal elements and search operations against suspects were launched.

During all these efforts for effective policing, Islamabad police achieved remarkable success during the last year and arrested 8,256 persons for their alleged involvement in various criminal cases. According to police statement, crime rate significantly reduced in 2015.

A spokesman said yesterday that a total of 113 murder cases were reported in 2015 as compared to 151 in 2014. According to his statement, seven kidnapping incidents, 31 dacoity incidents, 324 street crime cases, 300 burglary cases, 354 theft cases and 261 bike theft cases were reported in 2015 as compared to 14 kidnapping cases, 57 dacoities, 522 street crime cases, 358 burglary cases, 428 theft cases and 442 motorbike theft cases reported in the year 2014.

The car theft cases also reduced significantly and 51 per cent reduction was witnessed in such cases. Around 369 cases of vehicle theft were reported in 2015 and 767 in 2014. During this period, 943 proclaimed offenders were arrested and 5084 cases were also disposed off.

IGP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan has said it is the prime responsibility of police to provide relief to citizens, adding that every possible effort would be made to provide protection to the lives and property of citizens as well as resolving their complaints on immediate basis.
