LAHORE - On the basis of prevailing global atmospheric and ocean conditions, near normal rainfall is predicted all over the country during the coming winter season.

However, more than 20 percent above normal snowfall is likely over hills of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), upper KP and Kashmir.

According to meteorological department, two to three wet spells of light to moderate precipitation are expected at scattered places of KP, Upper Punjab, North Balochistan, GB and Kashmir during January.

Three spells of snowfall are predicted over hills of Upper KP, GB ,Kashmir and two spells of snowfall over the hills of North Balochistan during the month.

Foggy conditions will prevail over plains of Punjab and KP till mid of January. Dry weather conditions are likely to prevail in most parts of Sindh and southern Punjab during the month.

Rivers report: The position of the river inflows and outflows at Tarbela,Mangla and Chashma along with the reservoirs levels and the barrages on Friday was as follows:

Rivers:Indus at Tarbela:Inflows 19500 cusecs and Outflows 8000 cusecs, Kabul at Nowshera: Inflows 10100 cusecs and Outflows 10100 cusecs, Jhelum at Mangla: Inflows 10800 cusecs and Outflows 6000 cusecs, Chenab at Marala: Inflows 8100 cusecs and Outflows 8100 cusecs.

Barrages: Jinnah: Inflows 21700 cusecs and Outflows 14200 cusecs,

Chashma: Inflows 7000 cusecs and Outflows 11000 cusecs, Taunsa: Inflows 17400 cusecs and Outflows 17400 cusecs,Panjnad:Inflows 4600 cusecs and Outflows Nil, Guddu: Inflows 26500 cusecs and Outflows 21400 cusecs, Sukkur: Inflows 23800 cusecs and Outflows Nil,Kotri: Inflows 3500 cusecs and Outflows 3500.

Reservoirs (Level and Storage):Tarbela: Minimum operating level 1380 feet, present level 1490.08 feet,maximum conservation level 1550 feet,live storage today 3.320 million acre feet (MAF).

Mangla: Minimum operating level 1040 feet,present level 1179.85 feet, maximum conservation level 1242 feet, live storage today 3.289 MAF.

Chashma: Minimum operating level 637 feet, present level 643.30 feet, maximum conservation level 649 feet, live storage today 0.100 MAF.

The inflows and outflows of River Indus at Tarbela and Chashma,River Kabul at Nowshera and River Jhelum at Mangla have been reflected as mean flows of 24 hours, whereas the other flows have been gauged at 6.00 am.

According to Met office, foggy conditions would continue over plains of Punjab during morning hours. "Weather remained cold and dry in most parts of the country during last 24 hours".

In the provincial capital minimum temperature was recorded to be 7.5 degree celsius,while maximum remained 20 degree celsius on Friday.
