LAHORE - The Pakistan Awami Tehreek has demanded the military court trial of Model Town incident.

The demand has been made through a resolution passed by PAT Central Executive Council meeting held at party head-office yesterday. The meeting chaired by PAT chief Dr Tahirul Qadri sought the intervention of Army Chief to apprehend the facilitators and mastermind behind the killing of 14 PAT workers.

The PAT claims the Prime Minister, Punjab Chief Minister and Punjab Law Minister have planned the incident which led to the killing of 14 party workers on June 2014.

“The killers are among the rulers and due to their massive influence no one is ready to proceed against them and even those responsible for justice are afraid of giving any decision against the rulers for fear of action against them,” read the resolution. It said justice should be served in the same manner as has been served in the Army Public School Peshawar case.

Dr. Hassan Mohiyuddin Qadri, Khurram Nawaz Gandapur, Brig (rtd) Mohammed Saeed, Sahibzada Faizur Rehman Durrani, Ahmed Nawaz, Farrah Naz, allama M Idrees, Allama Farhat, Murtaza alvi, Shehzad Naqvi, Tanvir Khan, Irfan Yousaf, Noor Ullah sadiqui, Sajid Bhatti, Jawad Hamid attended the meeting.

Speaking on occasion, Dr. Qadri said that the PAT will go to all lengths to get justice for the martyrs of Model Town and will never back out. The other resolutions passed by CEC demanded fully implementation of National Action Plan and funds and powers for the recently elected Local Government representatives.

Bail dismissed: The Lahore High Court yesterday dismissed bail petition of a man who allegedly killed his young daughter Shahida in the name of honour.

A division bench of the LHC passed the order holding that bail for an offense against society and state could not be granted merely on the basis of compromise. The bench observed that the rapid increase in murders in the name of honor was highly commendable and as the law changes since 2004 an accused could not be granted concession of bail due to heirs’ compromise.

The bench also observed that after amendment in the law the bail could only be granted under special conditions and with consent of the trial court. Ghulam Yasin, a resident of Faisalabad district, killed his daughter Shahida in the name of honor.–
