LAHORE - City District Government Lahore (CDGL) continued its drive against overcharging and got arrested 77 shopkeepers besides lodging 58 FIRs against violators of Price Act, here on Friday.

CDGL teams also sent 19 persons out of total 77 to the prison for three days after summary trial on the spot. CDGL Special Price Control Magistrates conducted raids on 770 shops in various areas of the city and inspected price of commodities at local level. As many as 30 shopkeepers were challaned and fine was imposed worth Rs 2,05,000.

DCO Capt. (R) Muhammad Usman issued directions to the Town Administrators to continue crackdown against the profiteering to provide relief to the masses.

It may be mention here that following the directions by the Punjab Chief Minister, CDGL during its drive in November, got arrested 1867 shopkeepers besides lodging 1295 FIRs against violators of the Price Act.

Price Control Magistrates had conducted raids on 21543 shops in various areas of the city and sent 573 persons out of total 1867 to the prison for three days after summary trial on the spot. As many as 798 shopkeepers had been challaned and fine was imposed worth Rs 1,099,500 in November.
