LAHORE - Residents of Mustafa Abad and adjacent colonies at Wahdat Road and Multan Road yesterday held a protest demonstration against the worst noise and dust pollution and traffic mess they face on daily basis due to construction sites for Orange Line Metro Train project.

Jamaat-e-Islam Lahore chapter organised the agitation at Multan Chungi.

The protesting residents said the ill-planning and mismanagement for the construction of multi-billion train project have turned their lives and thousands of other people in localities into hell. The government and contactors have not taken into consideration any plan to control or decrease the pollution and traffic mess prior to start the construction, they said. Now the things turned into worst and people are turning into psychological patients, they added.

“We don’t need such developments. We need relief and peaceful life,” chanted the protesting residents.

It is merit mentioning that thousands of Lahorites have been facing huge problems due to mega construction sites for orange line in areas of Raiwind Road, Thoker Niaz Beg, Salamatpura, Darogawala, Shalimar Bagh, Singpura, UET and others localities on daily basis. The Punjab government and contractors have badly failed to give alternate plan to provide relief for the Lahorites before the start and during the construction work on the project.

“The plants for mixing of cement and stones (mixing plants) are generating huge noise day and night. We become psychological patients,” said Abdul Aziz Abid, the JI Lahore information secretary while addressing the protestors.

He said the contracts were not fulfilling the terms and condition of work while administration was silent spectator. “We witness daily traffic mess. Children go school late. Routine life is badly disturbed,” he said.

He warned to held sit-in if the mixing plants were not shifted from the area.
