In this regard, the students of the different universities displayed their vehicles here at the Shell headquarters.
The Shell Eco-Marathon is a four days event which takes place on city streets and provides an opportunity to young vehicle creators to showcase their latest ideas.
This time it will take place in Manila, Philippines. Student teams from 18 countries of Asia, Australia and Middle East will participate in the event.
They can build cars under the categories of futuristic vehicle or urban conceptualisation fuel-efficient cars.
The students manage and monitor the whole project themselves. The winning students in both categories get a prize of up to $2000.
The Shell Eco-Marathon gives a chance to students from Pakistan to unveil their creations at a global platform. The university students from Pakistan began participating in the event in 2009.
The highest rank attained by a Pakistani team was 3rd in urban category. This time around nine Pakistani teams will participate in the event.
According to a participant Mustafa Ali, a 21-year-old student from PIEAS, “It is an incredible opportunity for us. We are immensely honoured because our seniors secured the 3rd position in the competition last year. We are hoping to acquire an even better position in 2016. Our vehicle has an engine of 48cc horsepower and it covers 70km in one litre petrol.”
