A thorough investigation into the chopping of hands and fingers of farmworker Abu Bakar is underway and facts surrounding the incident will be unearthed soon, DPO Shaker Hussain Dawar said.

Addressing a press conference Friday afternoon, he said that a high-level inquiry committee constituted by the Punjab chief minister has already recorded the statements of numerous villagers. He informed that the District Police have also recorded statements of over 15 villagers and maintained that no one has so far corroborated the version of the alleged victim. The DPO claimed that the police are conducting the investigation without any favour and pressure, adding that facts would be dug out at all cost to ensure justice in the case.

Replying to a question, he said that currently, he could not say that hundred percent allegations of the complainant are fabricated or concocted or otherwise. He said that efforts are being made to probe into the allegations deeply to ascertain the real facts of the case so that to ensure that no injustice would be done to anyone.

He appreciated the local newsmen for their positive thinking. He, however, advised the media to be more responsible while reporting such incidents.
