Three posts of deputy medical superintendent and 37 of doctors have been vacant for the last three years at Govt Sardar Begum Memorial Teaching Hospital here due to which the patients have to suffer great ordeal regarding treatment.

The patients are forced by the doctors to go to the private hospitals and clinics for the purpose. The 37 seats of different doctors including of orthopaedic surgeon, nine seats of senior medical officers, seven of medical officers, two each of radiologists, ENT and assistant medical officers and eight posts of senior women medical officers have been lying vacant at the hospital. The hospital is running under the control of neighbouring Kh Muhammad Safdar Medical College Sialkot.

When contacted, officials said that they had repeatedly brought the situation into the notice of the Punjab Health Department but no go-ahead had yet been given in this regard.

Social, religious, health and political circles have expressed grave concern over the shortage of the male and female doctors at the hospital. They urged Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to look into the matter and ensure early appointments on the above-mentioned posts.

ARREST: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested village Kaakeywali-based Nabeel for travelling to Dubai on fake visa of Canada. During a special checking at Sialkot International Airport here, the FIA officials added that the accused was trying to go to Canada on fake visa via Dubai through Sialkot International Airport here.

55 govt schools denied IT teachers: As many as 55 government high schools lack IT teachers in Sialkot and Narowal districts thereby affecting the students’ computer education.

According to Education Department officials, 26 government high schools in Sialkot district and 29 in Narowal district had the well equipped computer labs, but there had been no IT teacher to teach the computer skills since the establishment of these labs several years ago. The Punjab government has not sanctioned posts of IT teachers in these school due to which, the teachers of other subjects have to teach computer education to the local students.

When contacted, the officials said that a summary had already been sent to the provincial government seeking recruitment of IT teachers.

COUPLE DIES: An elderly person and his wife died in a quick succession in village Partaanwali-Sialkot.

Haji Malik (85) was paralysed and died after protracted illness there. As he was being buried in local graveyard, his wife Mumtaz Bibi (75) also died of heart attack at her home, a few hours after the sad demise of her husband.

According to their grieved family, they had lived a happy life while facing all the ups and downs. They were the true life partners/ companions of each other. They lived together and they died together, the family added.

They were buried in local graveyard amid sobs and tears. A large number of the people from all walks of life attended their funeral.
