PESHAWAR - Pakistan People’s Party Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa chapter Deputy Secretary-General Behramand Tangi has criticised the federal government for increasing prices of petroleum products.

He termed the increase as the New Year gift of the federal government for the people, saying the move would directly affect the poverty-stricken masses in the country.

The PPP leader observed the downward trend in the prices of petroleum commodities, was witnessed over the past many months in regional countries, like India and Bangladesh, but he said the prices have gradually increased in Pakistan.

He strongly condemned the recent increase in the petroleum prices from Rs4 to Rs6 per liter would directly affect poor people. He further said that the PML-N government had failed to deliver the masses during the last four and half year in the country.

Tangi was addressing at a news conference at Peshawar Press Club here on Monday, wherein the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) youth activists from Peshawar announced joining in the PPP.

The PPP leader, on the occasion, rejected the PTI-led provincial government claims about planting over one-billion saplings under the billion tree tsunami program in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

He challenged PTI chief Imran Khan and Chief Minister Pervez Khattak to hold an open debate on the project. He also alleged the massive corruption in the Billion Trees Tsunami project.

He said that Imran Niazi had called the metro service in Punjab and Islamabad as ‘jhangla’ bus, now his party led KP government has launched Rapid Bus Transit Project.

He said the millions of rupees had spent on Peshawar green project, but the green-belt uprooted to launch the project. He alleged the BRT project contract was awarded to a blacklisted company.

Tangi said the corruption is at the peak in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa while the PTI-led government failed to take practical steps for generation of single megawatts electricity in the province. He said the situation is worst in health and education sectors.

Earlier, speaking on the occasion, the PTI youth wing activists, Azmat Ali Toofan, Hayat Khan, and Adil Khan along with their family members and friends announced joining to the PPP by quitting the party.

They have the viewed that Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf has been confined to Bani Gala and there was no respect for the ideological workers in PTI. They said the PPP is only political party to steer the country out from the prevailing crisis.

They expressed confidence over the leadership of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari. We are inspired by PPP manifesto of Roti, Kapra, and Makan, they viewed.

Later, Behramand Tangi welcomed the new entrants in the party fold. He said that the PPP would give due respect and status to the party.

He revealed that stalwarts and notable figures from different political parties would soon join the PPP.

The local leader claimed that his party will regain its lost ground in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and will win a majority of seats in the general elections 2018 to form its government in the province.
