Govt to withdraw petition against teachers' bodies, says Pir Mazhar

Karachi (PPI) - Sindh Senior Minister for Education, Literacy & Criminal Prosecution Service Pir Mazharul Haq announced that the government would take steps to withdraw petition against teachers' organizations filed in the Supreme Court of Pakistan. This he said while talking to a delegation of Government Secondary Teachers Association (GSTA) at his office on Tuesday. He assured the delegation that ban on teachers' organizations would be lifted after the withdrawal of the petition. He said that approval would be obtained by Sindh Chief Minster to provide jobs to children of teachers through son/daughter quota on merit. He agreed the delegation that scales and facilities of Sindh teachers should be made at per Balochistan teachers It was also decided in the meeting that DPC would be held at Education Department every month after the end of the OPS in the department, while suggestion to give monthly allowance to teachers would be mulled over. The minister said that the government would restore the privilege of teachers and all genuine problems being faced by them would be resolved on priority. He said that the government needs cooperation of teachers to implement its Educational Policy. He said that new teachers would be recruited on merit and promises made with World Bank in this regard would be fulfilled. He said that funds for Education Department would be used transparently and black sheep in the department would be expelled. The delegation apprised the minister that previous government committed atrocities against teachers and ban on teachers organizations imposed by the previous government had badly harmed the education in Sindh. They assured the minister to support Educational Policy of present government.
