ISLAMABAD: Inspector General of Police Syed Kaleem Imam Wednesday called upon the traders of the federal capital to extend their full cooperation in their efforts to strengthen security in the federal capital. He was addressing a meeting of Traders Action Committee (TAC) led by Ch Muhammad Kashif. Syed Kaleem Imam told them that the meeting of the Traders Action Committee (TAC) would be held after every three months to review various problems being faced by the traders community of the capital including their suggestions relating to improving performance of the police force and security issues. The IGP briefed the traders community about the steps taken by the police and with reference to police check posts, action against beggars etc. He told them that he had directed the police at check posts to behave the citizens politely and gently while carrying out checking. He said that the police personnel and officers deployed at the check posts were being given briefings on daily basis by SSP Operation Tahir Alam Khan and SSP Traffic Dr Sultan Taimuri and any complaints regarding misbehaviour and taking bribe by the police at any of the check posts from the citizens would face strict disciplinary action. He assured them that Islamabad Police would fully cooperate with the traders in the resolution of their problems relating to the security concerns. He said that the problems would be resolved in consultation with the traders community of the federal capital. Syed Kaleem Imam also asked the traders to install Close Circuit TV Cameras (CCTVs) in the markets and their business centres to monitor the activities of the anti-state elements and outlaws in the markets besides helping the arrests of such elements besides ensuring proper security in the capital. He also urged them to help the local administration in eliminating encroachment from the footpaths in the markets. He also asked them to keep guard outside their business centres so that proper security with the help of police in the capital should be ensured. The IGP told them that Reconciliation committees at the Police Station level had started functioning. He added that Human Rights Officers were also being restored. IGP further said that members of the traders community would also be included in the committees while Traders Action Committees at SP, SSP and police station level are also being established in which trades representatives with good reputation would also be included. The traders representatives thanked the IGP Islamabad for the briefing and assured him of their full support in the security related matters in the federal capital.
