LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif has said that the nation was supporting the military operation to eliminate extremism from the society. He was talking to the newsmen here at Mansoora on Wednesday. The Punjab CM condoled the sad demise of Mian Tufail Muhammad with Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Syed Munawar Hassan, JI Secretary General Liaqat Baloch and sons of the deceased. Shahbaz stressed the need of ending the military operation within minimum time period, saying that the nation would not support it for a longer time. He said that sense of deprivation among masses was the main reason behind extremism, therefore, the people should be given their due rights and justice to eliminate the menace of extremism. He said that the loadshedding crisis could have been averted if Musharraf had constructed Bhasha Dam. He said that the government was trying its level best to improve the performance of the police. Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister, Shahbaz Sharif has said that Pakistan was passing through a critical phase and facing the challenges of terrorism and extremism. Therefore responsibilities of police force have increased manifold and it would have to perform its duties with greater commitment and dedication for protecting the life and property of citizens. The CM was presiding over a high level meeting regarding law and order situation in the province at CM Secretariat here on Wednesday. Implementation of the policy for elimination of terrorism, overall law and order situation and performance of law-enforcing agencies were reviewed in detail during the meeting, which lasted for more than three hours. The meeting also took a number of decisions regarding maintenance of peace, close coordination between intelligence agencies and improvement of the performance of police. The meeting was attended by Senior Advisor Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa, Raja Ashfaq Sarwar, Jehanzeb Burki, Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, Inspector General Police Punjab as well as senior officers. The CM said the whole nation would have to unite on one-point agenda for the eradication of extremism and terrorism in the interest of solidarity and survival of the country.
