ISLAMABAD (APP) Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Thursday directed the Ministry of Interior to take all necessary steps for implementation of the Joint Declaration of SAARCs Interior Ministers in letters and spirit. Talking to Interior Minister Rehman Malik here at PM secretariat the prime minister reiterated the need for more coordination between the two countries in confronting the terrorists. He expressed satisfaction over meeting of the Interior Ministers of Pakistan and India and hoped it would pave way for bridging the trust gap between the two neighbours. Talking about the scourge of militancy, the Prime Minister said Pakistan is the frontline state in this war and it is high time the world extends complete support in rooting out this menace. He paid rich tribute to the martyrs and all those who suffered in the fight. He, however, emphasised that unity among the political and social fabric of the society is essential to achieve the desired results. The overall security situation of the country also came under discussion during the meeting. The prime minister expressed satisfaction over the present improved law and order situation and appreciated the Interior Minister for his concerted efforts as well as the role of the law enforcement agencies in maintaining peace in the county. He observed that with improvement of the security environment in the country, confidence of potential investors is growing and they are now expressing interest in various fields which would ultimately benefit the people. Rehman Malik briefed the Prime Minister about his meetings with the SAARC Interior Ministers and the subsequent developments. He specially informed that the meeting with his Indian counterpart was productive.
