ISLAMABAD Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani has said that during his last two visits to Kabul, he met President Karzai to discuss issues of mutual interests. General Kayani has denied organising secret meetings in Kabul between Afghan President Hamid Karzai and a senior Al-Qaeda-linked militant. ISPR said on Thursday that the COAS has made these comments upon the recent reports of his meetings in Afghanistan. General Kayani said that on both those occasions, ex-commander ISAF General Stanley McChrystal was also present, adding that transparent trilateral engagement augurs well for the comfort level of the leadership of all the prime stakeholders and strengthens the existing relationship. Meanwhile, TheNation has reliably learnt that the Army Chief and Director General ISI were scheduled to visit Kabul on June 28, but postponed their visit because of the change in ISAF command. Although such a visit was not in the knowledge of the ISPR, according to the informed sources, Army Chief and DG ISI would likely to visit Kabul after the new ISAF commander General David Petraeus takes the charge of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).
