PML-F, Z, Like-Minded join hands to make alliance

LAHORE-Amid talk of mid-term polls in the context of fake degrees scandal, and in view of widening gulf between the PPP and the PML-N, a new political alliance is in the making. In a significant development on Thursday, heads of three factions of Pakistan Muslim League- PML-Functional, PML-Like-minded Group and PML-Zia-met at the residence of President, PML-F, Punjab, Makhdoom Ahmad Mahmood and decided to form a new political alliance to play an active role in countrys politics and to provide an alternate leadership to the people in the next general elections. Son of Pir of Pagaro and President PML-F, Pir Sadruddin Rashdi, Punjab President, Makhdoom Ahmad Mahmood, party MPA, Dr. Asma Mamdoot, President PML-LMG, Hamid Nasir Chathha, President PML-Z, Ejazul Haq and LMG leaders including Khurshid Mahmood Kasuri and Jehangir Khan Tareen attended the meeting. They decided to convert this alliance into a greater alliance by establishing contacts with other like-minded political forces. People like former Prime Minister, Zafarullah Khan Jamali and Anwar Saifullah may also be contacted to materialise the objective, it has been learnt. This baby alliance would soon turn out to be a greater alliance as more PML factions including some smaller political parties join it, Makhdoom Ahmad Mahmood told The Nation on Thursday while talking about future prospects of the new political grouping, which, he believed, would give a third option to the electorate to elect their representatives in national and provincial assemblies. Makhdoom further told this scribe that a core committee comprising Khurshid Mahmood Kasuri, Ejazul Haq and Jehangir Tareen has been constituted to contact leaguers in other factions of the league and some politicians of national stature to shape up a greater alliance. Makhdoom said it would be a union of credible and clean politicians to provide an alternate leadership to the people. He said the newly constituted core committee would meet on July 15 at the residence of Khurshid Mahmood Kasuri to shape up contours of the alliance and finalise the list of people to be contacted for the purpose. He said the proposed greater alliance would make its presence felt within six months. It may be recalled here that PML-F has got three members in Punjab Assembly while PML-Z has one member. The PML-F has one Senator and three MNAs, while LMG has also its representation in the national and provincial assemblies.
