ISLAMABAD  -  Nasir Yasin of PAF created new national shooting record in 50m prone rifles category by enabling his team to win team gold in the shooting event as Army continued to dominate National Games 2013 by winning a whooping 130 medals on the third day of the event on Monday. Nasir Yasin played outstanding role by securing 598 points out of 600 and broke 10-year old record of M Saddique of Army of 594 points. Other two shooters Maqsood (587 points) and Midrar (583 points) supported Nasir well. Wing Commander Ijaz Khan expressed satisfaction over PAF team gold victory against strong teams like Navy and Army. He said PAF team scored overall 1,756 points out of 1800 which is also a new national record. He said Navy won silver medal with 1,749 points and Army remained third with 1,746 to win bronze medal. Army team is edging closer to retain prestigious Quaid-e-Azam Trophy with 67 golds, 46 silvers and 17 bronze medals with total 130 medals. They are followed by Punjab with nine golds, eight silvers and 18 bronze with total 35 medals while Navy is occupying third slot with six golds, 13 silvers and 19 bronze medals with total of 38 medals. PAF team is at fourth with four golds, one silver and three bronze medals, KPK at fifth with one gold, six silvers and five bronze medals, Railway is at sixth with one gold, four silvers and five bronze medals, Sindh is at number seven with one gold, three silvers and five bronze medals, Balochistan at eighth with three silvers and eight bronze medals, Islamabad at ninth with one silver and seven bronze medals and Fata is at number 10 with one silver medal. In hockey event played at Naseer Bunda Hockey Stadium, Navy beat KPK 8-4. Navy was leading 3-1 in the first half with Akbar Tabi scoring a hat trick while M Shabbir also scored a brace to give their side a perfect start. In squash team event played at Mushaf Ali Squash Complex, PAF outclassed Fata 3-0 in pool A. Farhan Zaman beat Mansoor Jan 3-0, 11-2, 11-3, 11-8 in just 16 minutes, Owais Khan beat Rishwan 3-0, 11-5, 11-4, 11-7 while Naveed Atlas beat Tahir Iqbal 3-0 as he was awarded walk over. Army edged out Navy 2-1. Zahir Shah of Navy beat Bilal Zakir 3-2 with the score of 11-4, 4-11, 11-7, 7-11, 11-6 while Sadamul Haq Army beat Alamzeb 3-0 and Raees Khan Army beat Faraz Khan 3-2. in the evening matches, Army beat Fata 3-0. Bilal Zakir beat Rishwan 3-0 with the score of 11-1, 11-7, 11-5, Sadamul Haq beat Mansoor Jan 3-0 and Raees Khan beat Tahir Iqbal 3-0. PAF beat Navy 3-0 as Farhan Zaman beat Alamzeb 3-1 with 1-11, 11-7, 11-3, 11-6, Owais Khan beat Zahir Shah 3-1 and Naveed Atlas beat M Naeem 3-1. In pool B, KPK beat Islamabad 2-1, Waqas Mahboob of KPK beat Haseeb Gul 3-0, 11-1, 11-2, 11-4 while Waqar Mahboob beat Ibrahim Gul 3-0 and Abbas Shoukat of KPK lost his match against Omar Balaj 3-2. Punjab beat Sindh 3-0 as Shoaib Hassan beat Nouman Khan 3-0, 11-6, 11-7, 11-7 while Israr Ahmed beat Ali Imran 3-0 and Asim Khan beat Faizan Khan 3-0. In the evening matches, KPK beat Sindh 3-0 as Waqas Mahboob beat Nouman Khan 3-0, 11-3, 11-4, 11-8 while Waqar Mahboob beat Abdul Basit 3-0 and Abbas Shoukat beat Faizan Khan 3-1. Punjab beat Islamabad 3-0 as Shoiab Hassan beat Haseeb Gul 3-0 while Israr Ahmed beat Ibrahim Gul 3-1 and Asim Khan beat Umar Balaj 3-1. In the judo event, Army clinched five golds and KPK won one gold medal. In 50kg category, Sajid Hussain of Army won the gold, Hadiullah of Fata silver and M Usman of KPK and Arsalan Maqsood of Punjab win bronze medals. In 55kg category, Mudasar Ali of Army grabbed gold, Gulzar of Railways won silver and Bilal of Punjab won bronze medal. In 40kg female category, Kiran Shahzai of Army bagged gold, Kausar Iqbal of KPK silver while Kaira and Misha of Sindh won bronze medals. In 44kg category, Arwa Afridi of Army claimed gold, Aqsa Hussain of KPK silver and Fareeha of Islamabad bronze. In athletics men’s event, Sanaullah of Army notched up gold in javelin throw while M Ali of Army won second and M Idrees of Navy third. In female triple jump, Sidra Bashir grabbed gold, Javeeria of Punjab silver and Pamila of Army bronze. In 100m female race, Sahib Asra of Punajb claimed gold, Shazia Irshad of Army silver and Ayila Alloudin of Sindh bronze. In 100m male race, M Imran of Army won gold, Ubaid Ali of Army silver and Veernain of Sindh bronze. In 800m male race, Ghulam Mustafa of PAF lifted gold, Abdul Waheed silver and Zakullah also of Army bronze. In weightlifting male 56kg category, Ilyas Ghafoor of Punjab clinched gold, Majid Amanat of Army silver and Saluddin of KPK bronze. In 62kg category, Haris Butt of Punjab won gold, Aamir Butt of Army silver and M Muneer of Balochistan bronze while in men’s swimming, Army secured five gold and the same number of silver medals.
