MIRPUR (AJK)-Former AJK High Court Chief Justice and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation League (JKLL) President Abdul Majeed Mallick on Monday appreciated the recent policy of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif led government of Pakistan towards normalization of relations with India.Talking to newsmen in his office chamber here, the seasoned Kashmiri jurist-cum-politician termed Prime Minister Sharif's willingness for the establishment of normal relations with India as the part of the successful foreign policy of his newly-elected democratic government.He continued that it was hoped that as a result of the revival of bilateral good neighbourly relations between India and Pakistan, the exchange of trade would indeed promote besides the promotion of people-to-people contact through the exchange of delegations of the expertise from all segments of the civil society in the wake of the already-initiated CBM's to reach to the ultimate settlement of all long-standing conflicts including the core issue of Kashmir.The Kashmiri leader suggested to both the governments of India and Pakistan to also allow exercise of this approach of normalization of relations in the disputed state of Jammu & Kashmir through softening the line of control, simplification of the current complicated system of travel permit to ensure the exchange of similar bilateral delegations of the expertise including politicians, lawyers, journalists, members of business community from both sides of the LoC (AJK and Indian-held Kashmir) and encouraging the current weekly cross-LoC trade between AJK and IHK.Primarily, Justice Malick proposed that politicians from all sections and all parts of the Jammu & Kashmir state may be facilitated to visit freely all areas of the State and exchange views to evolve a consensus in all parts of the State leading to ultimate settlement of the Jammu & Kashmir problem."In my view the people of Jammu & Kashmir are alone are the arbiter of their fate and the future status", he said. He asserted that the view point of other stakeholders was also relevant for the sake of acceptance of the proposed settlement of Kashmir issue in Pakistan and India. To a question, Justice (r) Majeed said that the past policy on Kashmir of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the then Indian Prime Minister Vajpayee would help to initiate dialogue on Kashmir to reach its final settlement in line with the aspirations of people of Jammu & Kashmir State.Commenting on the recent visit of Indian PM Manmohan Singh and foreign minister Salman Khursheed to Indian Held Kashmir, he said that the reaction in the shape of mass anti-India protest and complete strike was a loud message to India and the world at large that the people of Jammu & Kashmir, under no inducement, coercion or influence were prepared to accept the Indian hegemony in the occupied state short of complete freedom from the Indian rule.
