KARACHI- Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh Iqbal Mehmood has ordered stern action against the elements making prank calls to 15 Helpline.
At the meeting in Central police office, IGP Sindh took the notice of prank calls received by 15 Helpline, and instructed officials to take stern action against such calls. It was also told that 95 percent calls made to 15 Helpline were prank. He said those calls kept 15 Helpline busy and created problems in receiving real calls. He also instructed the police officials to start SMS service for better performance of 15 Helpline, review the effectiveness of SMS service and send him a report in this regard.
He was informed in meeting that this year 15 Helpline received 41314 calls from 1st January to 30th June 2014 about crimes, and police took immediate action on 621 calls against robberies, 544 vehicle snatching, 896 vehicle theft, 1402 motorcycle snatching, 2158 motorcycle theft, 5135 mobile phone snatching, and other calls made by the citizens.
According to reports, 1169 accused were arrested, who were involved in theft and robbery. Four dacoits were killed in action, while 25 pistols, one rifle, one bomb, and more than 85 live rounds were recovered from their possession.
