LAKKI MARWAT - The local chapter of Municipal Workers Welfare Union on Tuesday held a protest demonstration in Kargil Chowk against the non-payment of salaries and pension for the last three months.

The protesters also took out a rally from Tanchi office, which converged at the Kargil Chowk after passing on Lakki-Darra Tang road.

Local Government Employees Federation Provincial President Haji Anwar Kamal and Local Union President Khursheed Alam Khan Minakhel led the rally.

The protesters carried banners inscribed with their demands of releasing salaries. On the occasion, Anwar Kamal and other employees' leaders said that the employees of Lakki Municipal Committee had not paid salaries and pension for the last three months.

"With the advent of Ramazan the poor and low ranking employees of the civic body do not have a single penny to purchase essentialities for Sehri and Iftar," they revealed.

They told that the non-payment of salaries and pension had doubled the miseries and distresses of workers and retired employees.

Speakers said that traders had stopped selling daily use commodities to the municipal employees on loan. They said that municipal service would remain suspended in the entire urban locality until and unless salaries and pension were paid to the workers."

The employees have no option other than to stop cleanliness, supply of drinking water and suspend fire truck service so as to press the government to accept their genuine demand of releasing salaries and pension," they maintained.

They held responsible chief municipal officer for delay in payment of salaries and demanded of the government to transfer him forthwith.
