LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said that the whole nation is united and determined in the war against terrorism and the country would soon be rid of the menace and made a haven of peace and tranquillity.

He said that Pak Army is fighting the enemies of peace for the survival and solidarity of the country. He said that the nation is proud of professionalism and courage of the armed forces which have achieved tremendous successes against terrorists. He said that the nation is standing by its armed forces.

The CM said that Pakthun brethren and sisters of North Waziristan left their homes in the fight against terrorism. However, the Punjab government is standing by the displaced people of PK and would provide them all out help and assistance till their return and complete rehabilitation, he added.

Talking to Punjab Assembly Members of various districts here Tuesday, Shahbaz said that the provincial government has already set up Chief Minister’s Relief Fund with a sum of Rs500 million for the provision of help and relief to the IDPs while relief items worth Rs100 million have also been sent through 50 trucks. He said the process of help and assistance to the IDPs would continue in the future as well. He said that besides provision of relief and assistance, the Punjab government has also decided to give financial help to the affectees, so that they could purchase necessary items to meet their needs.

Shahbaz Sharif said that process of cooperation and help to the affectees will continue till rehabilitation of the last person and the government is fully aware of the problems and difficulties of the Pakhtun brethren. He said that the federal government is trying to resolve the issues of the IDPs, while the Punjab government is also extending all out assistance to the affectees. He said, “We are helping the affected brethren as a religious, moral and national obligation.”

He made an appeal to philanthropists and well-to-do persons to donate generously to Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for the help of IDPs and assured that every penny of their donations will be distributed among affected people in a transparent manner.

The CM said that the Punjab government is serving the masses selflessly for the last six years and like every year it has announced a historic Ramazan Package for the provision of relief to the masses in the holy month of Ramazan. He said it is the responsibility of assembly members to play an effective role for ensuring that deserving persons fully benefit from the Ramazan package. He said the elected representatives should perform their responsibility through monitoring of prices, quality and supply of essential commodities.
