Resigning with dignity

Our political culture lacks tradition to accept responsibility while in authority and our rulers, dictator or civilians, garbed in democracy, do what pleases them without any fear of accountability or retribution. This is evident from ghostly heat wave tragedy, which consumed thousand in Karachi. The federal and provincial chief executives and their cabinet members, instead of bearing responsibility and resigning seem to find incredible excuses and hurl blame at each other. This is painful and unacceptable. In other countries those who enjoy fruit of power, voluntarily abdicate their authority in case of any fault or shortcoming in their governance.
Our rulers hide behind the argument that it was a natural phenomenon difficult to avert. No one can deny or dispute this, yet it is subject to debate if government functionaries were quick to provide medical aid to the victims, many precious lives would have been saved. Now instead of politicising the issue the rulers need to accept responsibility, plug loopholes in their authority or incase of inability to do so quit the stage and set a good example for others to follow.
