ISLAMABAD Federal Minister for Minorities Affairs, Shahbaz Bhatti has announced a two-pronged strategy to ensure protection of minorities and to promotes interfaith harmony in the country here on Tuesday. Addressing a news conference at the Press Information Department, the Minister said that a hotline would be set up in the ministry to record the minority problems. He said the round-the-clock operating hotline would be connected with all police stations and the President House to ensure immediate response to the calls of minorities, seeking any kind of help or protection. PM Gilani will inaugurate the hotline in July, he added. He said committees would be established in all the districts of country aimed at promoting interfaith harmony and national solidarity, failing the nefarious designs of the anti-state elements fanning sectarianism. The Minister said the committees would keep an eye in surroundings of their respective localities and hold monthly meetings with District Coordination Officers. Reports of every meeting would be sent to the concerned quarters for necessary action, he added. He said the Ministry would launch a publication of monthly magazine containing reports and recommendations of the district committees. He said special crisis management training would be imparted to members of the committees to improve their efficiency. He said rallies would be arranged in different parts of the country to exhibit national unity and create awareness among masses about the anti-state elements, carrying out subversive activities to destabilise the country. Condemning the recent attacks on worship places of Ahmedi community in Lahore, he said it was an act of terrorism that the country is facing for the past several years. After facing defeat in Swat and Malakand, he said terrorists were out to destabilise the country by carrying out incidents of terrorism in its other parts. The Minister said the Lahore incident should not be taken only in the context of minorities as terrorists have no religion and they have the only agenda to create anarchy in the country. He appreciated the role and sacrifices of Pakistan Army and law enforcement agencies in the war against terrorism.
