LAHORE Faisalabad, Karachi Academy No.2 and Sialkot began the third day of the first PHF Inter Academies Hockey Tournament with comprehensive wins in the morning session on Tuesday here at the National Hockey Stadium while two matches were played in the evening with wins for Lahore and Karachi Academy No.1. In the first match of the day, the title favorites Faisalabad hammered six goals against hapless Abbottabad after they were leading by two goals in the first session of the game. Mohammad Umer Ihsan, Rizwan Ali and Muddassar Ali shared two goals each for Faisalabad. The winners got eight short corners and they managed to score on two while the losers got one. On the pitch two, Karachi Academy No.2 banged in two goals to leave Gojra, the house of hockey, ruing for their poor showing. Faizan Khan and Ibrar Azam sounded the board for Karachi and both the goals came in the second half of the match after the first two halves remained barren. The teams got seven penalty corners with four falling in favour of Gojra and were wasted. Sialkot managed three goals as against one from Bahawalpur in the third match of the day. Interestingly three of the four goals came from short-corners while one field goal was scored by Sialkots Hammad Zafar, which was also the opening score of the match that came in the 19th minutes of the game. And the rest of the three goals came in the 30th and 39th minutes from Sialkot players while the fourth was registered in the 59th minute by Bahawalpurs striker. Apart from Hammad, Ahsan Khaliq converted the two goals for Sialkot and from Bahawalpur Abdul Wahab brought parity. In the evening matches, Lahore beat Hyderabad 8-0 and Karachi defeated Peshawar 4-2.
