A low-profiled cricketer, all rounder Abdul Razzaq has won many matches single-handedly for Pakistan. His talent, though, is not being fully utilized despite the fact that he is rated alongside Shane Watson of Australia by some. Shane Watson, who now bats at the opening position, was also a lower order batsman at the start of his career. But the selectors and his captains in Australia saw his potential and promoted him to open the batting for Australia and that is where he has proven himself. Abdul Razzaq has not been so lucky with selectors and captains. In the recent T20 World Cup, for instance, he didnt get enough chance to bat, often coming in when only 3-4 over were left. That means he was usually left high and dry when overs ran out. He also didnt get enough bowling in 2 matches he played. Of his captains of the past, only Wasim Akram was clever enough to utilize Razzaq according to his potential and in Wasims captaincy, he was asked to bat at different middle order positions according to the situation. He did extremely well during that purple patch. I hope the new captain Shahid Afridi would not keep Abdul Razzaq relegated to lower order and would use him up the order according to the conditions. -MUBASHIR MAHMOOD, Karachi, May 28.
