LAHORE Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif has said the report of a reputed international institution like Transparency International regarding transparency in Punjab is an honour for the government as well as the people. He was addressing the Members Punjab Assembly at Chief Ministers Secretariat, here on Tuesday. The CM said the TI report was a proof of the fact that transparency and merit were the cardinal principles of the government in Punjab. He said the recruitment of 40,000 educators and police officials in Punjab purely on merit as well as the measures taken in the Communication & Works Department and other sectors clearly reflect the strategy of the Punjab government regarding transparency in governance. The Transparency International and a number of other world reputed institutions in the last tenure of Muslim League-N had in their reports had also acknowledged the upholding of merit in Punjab, he said, adding that the crusade against corruption would continue and nothing could weaken his resolve to uproot this menace from the society. It is my determination that Punjab should figure more prominently in the next Transparency International report with regard to transparency and corruption-free governance, he further added.
