Drive against sub-standard pesticides

LAHORE - The Punjab government has decided to launch a special campaign throughout the province for eradication of sale of sub-standard and adulterated pesticides. Member Provincial Assembly Asif Manzoor Mohal will be in-charge of this campaign. The meeting of sub-committee constituted for eradication of manufacturing and sale of sub-standard and adulterated agriculture medicines held at agriculture house on Wednesday decided that necessary amendments in the Pesticides Ordinance 1971 will be presented. The meeting was told that under 18th amendment, the legislation regarding agriculture sector has fallen in the jurisdiction of provincial government. On the direction of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, taskforce for eradication of sub-standard agriculture medicines has evolved an effective course of action against those involved in heinous business of sale of adulterated pesticides under which a 12-member monitoring cell has been set up at provincial level. A litigation cell would be set up in pest warning wing in this regard. Separate magistrate will be posted for deciding cases of adulterated agriculture medicines in each district and cases relating to agriculture medicines will be heard in the authorized court of each district on the same day.
