SIALKOT - The poultry dealers took out a peaceful rally against the proposed imposition of GST on poultry in the upcoming budget for the fiscal year 2011-2012 here. The dealers started off with the rally from Katchery Chowk and ended at congested Allama Iqbal Chowk, passing through all main bazaars and roads, holding banners and placards, and chanting anti-government slogans. Talking to the newsmen, some leading poultry dealers including Hafiz Sajjad, Imran Akhtar Thakur and Mazhar Hussain said that imposition for GST would culminate in an increase in the prices of chicken and eggs, and the feed of the poultry would also cost more after the imposition of GST on poultry. They termed the proposed imposition of GST 'a big conspiracy' against the poultry industry saying that it would lead to reduced access of common man to poultry products after beef and mutton. They demanded the government to not impose the proposed GST on poultry considering the national interest.
