Terror war aggravated socio-economic woes

ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that devolution of power after the 18th Amendment has posed greater responsibility in the provincial governments to minimise the difficulties of the people. It is heartening to note that federal and all the provincial governments including AJ&K as well as Gilgit-Baltistan are on the same page for according priority to the social sector particularly education and health, the Prime Minister said and expressed confidence that appropriate allocations would be made in the respective budget on this account. The Prime Minister was talking to the Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Chief Ministers of Punjab, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The federal minister for health was also present in the meeting held prior to the 1st meeting of the National Task Force on Polio Eradication at the Prime Ministers Secretariat Wednesday morning. The Prime Minister said that the war against terrorism had aggravated the prevalent socio-economic situation and it was necessary to improve information sharing and coordination among the security and law enforcement agencies of the federal and provincial governments. The international communitys support to Pakistan in fight against terrorism is encouraging and it would further strengthen Pakistans resolve to eradicate this menace in the larger interest of peace and prosperity of Pakistanis as well as of the world. The chief ministers apprised the Prime Minister that provincial governments were committed to focussing on social sector development keeping education and health sectors on priority. They assured that the security apparatus in the provinces would be further improved to help eliminate the menace of terrorism. The support of UK and China in Pakistans efforts to fight terrorism, they mentioned, is indeed encouraging for the people of Pakistan. They hoped the important understanding with US on security issues would help bring about peace and stability in the region.
