Renowned poet and song writer Riazur Rehman Saghar, 72, passed away in Lahore. His funeral prayers will be offered on Sunday (today) at Allama Iqbal town.
President Asif Ali Zardari, caretaker federal Information Minister Arif Nizami have expressed deep condolence Saghar’s demise.
His poetic column ‘Arz kia hai’ had being published in the newspaper Nawa-e-Waqt.  From lyrics of movie to pop songs, Riazur Rehman was versatile in every way. It is indeed no surprise that he had written more than 2000 songs to date. He wrote songs of many singers such as Hadiqa Kiani's 'Dupatta Mera Malmal Da' and 'Yaad Sajan Di Ayi'.
He also wrote the duet 'Kabhi to Nazar Milao' sang by Asha Bhosle and Adnan Sami Khan. Among other popular film soundtracks are 'Sargam', which was primarily sung by Adnan Sami Khan and Hadiqa Kiani. More recently songs written by him were featured in the Punjabi movie 'Virsa', with the song 'Main Tenu Samjhawan Ki' becoming immensely popular due to its simple and soothing words. He also wrote his travel experience of China in the form of a poem was published in papers and also available in a book.–Staff Reporter
