Mepco Divisional SE Sarfraz Ahmed Khan said that tube-well owners of the Sahiwal Circle currently owed more than Rs2 billion to the Mepco in the head of monthly bills.

He stated this while talking to the journalists in his office here the other day.

He said that electricity theft was being carried out more in domestic sector than in the commercial sector and the Mepco was now taking strenuous measures to put a check on theft.

Wapda SE informed that electricity theft was being committed in organized manner in posh areas and warned of stern action if any Wapda employee was found involved in theft, adding that SDOs Noorpur and Pakpattan had also been transferred for their negligence.

He said though actions were being taken against individuals involved in theft but a structural change was required to end the crime.

He said that overbilling will not be tolerated and urged the media and the society to help the authorities in eradicating the menace of electricity theft and called upon the masses to submit all kinds of bills. To a question he said that loadshedding was being controlled by the centre and they were bound to follow the instructions from the centre.
